Sekenani Camp - Masai Mara Kenya ReviewsSekenani is a small Camp, situated 6 km from the Sekenanai
gate, just outside the Masai Mara National Reserve. Opened in September 1990, the camp is the creation of Jean Marie Sabin and Nicholas Wood who have put all their energies into making Sekenani a truly African experience. Sekenani Camp is operated in conjunction with twenty six Masai families who have a share in the business. It is the logistical center for a community development project developing infrastructure for health-care, veterinary services, education and clean water for people living around the Masai Mara National Reserve. The Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya is one of the most famous wildlife reserves in Africa. It is a vast, grassy plain that stretches across Kenya’s southwestern corner, and is home to an incredibly diverse range of wildlife. The landscape of the Masai Mara is varied and beautiful. Open grasslands are dotted with acacia trees, while winding rivers traverse the area. The reserve is also home to the Mara River, which is home to large hippo pods and is the site of the spectacular annual wildebeest crossing. The Masai Mara is home to a variety of wildlife, including the Big Five, as well as other species such as cheetah, hyena, giraffe, zebra, and gazelle. It is also home to a range of birdlife, including vultures, eagles, storks, and kestrels. The reserve also hosts a wide range of predators, from lions and leopards to African wild dogs and black-backed jackals. . It's an understated, different, low-key place, which may not appeal to everyone. The camp is located on a small stream on a wooded hillside about fifteen minutes from the Sekenani Gate to the Mara NP. The food is simple, bordering on unimaginative, with no buffet, just a couple of choices at dinner, and none at lunch. Overall, this is a nice quiet place, without frills, and pleasantly friendly and unassuming. . Elegantly furnished. The best part is that it has been raised on platforms and you can really relax and just see the day pass by. Game drives were also lovely. . Have visited many camps and hotels in the Mara. Sekenani is my favorite. The peaceful setting, intimate atmosphere, attention to guests, excellent food and beautiful private tents nestled above the springs and forest, all add to its charm. We were at the Masai Mara Sekenani Camp with several other couples. Game drives were terrific with very knowledgeable guides. Tented rooms are large and very comforable. The surroundings are beautiful and very peaceful. I was not particularly impressed with the food but the service was superb. We went on our honeymoon and would recomend Sekenani to anyone. The service and kindness of the staff was above and beyond. They did everything they possibly could to make our time there perfect Sekenani Tented Camp, in the Masai Mara is fantastic. I stayed there as a single female and could not have been made to feel any more welcome, and looked after. The standards are very high. The Game Drives superb, great food. Gorgeous setting.
