The Diani Beach Resort is pretty much like the rest
of Kenya, beautiful hotels set in the middle of nowhere and to get
there you have to drive thought shanty towns, Like most people going
to kenya, the hotel is where you send most of your time unless you
go on a safari. Beautiful beaches and wonderful peole.
We have been to diani beach many times before first
time at this hotel spent the first 3 days trying to get the hotel to
serve us food that was hot and at least appertizing.
It is with regret that we have been privy to the slow decline of this Diani Beach hotel from a 5 plus hotel to at best 3.5 over the last 6 years. We have always enjoyed going there and appreciated the friendliness and willingness of the staff to go the extra mile at all times.
Just had a great week on my own at the Indian Ocean Resort. Fantastic time of year to go....not overcrowded, hot, not humid, lovely sea breeze and NO mosquitos. Found the hotel beautifully located, good amenities (though might be overstretched when fully occupied) lots to do if I wanted.....amazingly friendly and helpful staff who chatted away in at least five languages. Lovely small bungalows set in superb mature grounds.
I like Diani Beach hotel a lot. The beach is magnificent, the water clear and
warm, and the staff couldn't be nicer.
It's a low-rise complex of bungalows and other buildings, all designed with charm.
Built in the early 1990's, it was the first hotel on this stretch of
beach.
I've stayed at two other resorts in Diani - Papillon and Hotel Serena and
this is the best of the three. Check in and check out process was good,
food was reasonably varied and good.
The Diani Beach Hotel was first class all round from the warm and friendly staff to the food, amenities, rooms, location, entertainment and especially the
3 or 4 young lads that organised the sporting activities of which I took
part in even though I celebrated my 59th B/day performing with a Big Mumma
in the pool aerobics aftrerwards finding out she was the Hotel owners beloved Daughter. I would definately recommend the Volley Ball on the Beach with the local lads.
If there was one thing that left a bit to be desired it was the fact that most people left around 10.00 o`clock to go to bed, very boring.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the Indian B R hotel to anyone
who was thinking of going. It was also very very clean, rooms, gardens &
the Beach and no hassle on it.
We stayed here for one night and then went off on a Safari for 3 nights to
Tsavo East & West which was fantastic along with a night Safari.
We returned to the Indian Ocean Beach Resort for the rest of our holiday
which was just over 2 weeks. We met a lovelly couple there and have remained
in touch and have actually visited them.
Beaches are lovely but be prepared to be hassled as soon as you step onto the beach by the sellers. Definitely go as a couple and not as a 'girls only' holiday. Locals are very polite and welcoming but very persistant.
The beach boys and women can be a pain, but you do have to be abrupt with them. The beach is lovely and the forty thieves is a must.
The
beach was beautiful but you had to get up at six to enjoy a peaceful
walk without being bombarded buy the beach sellers. They would scour
the hotels for new clients and then offer you free items so that you
were obliged to visit the beach shops.
We may just have been unlucky with our position on the beach, but found the seaweed annoying. The sea was beautifully warm when we did venture in, but a combination of seaweed and beach traders put us off. Lovely white powdery sand, but no sunbeds on beach as it is a public facility.
There are several shops within a short walk of the hotel.
One negative point is that you are always pestered by the locals wanting
to sell their goods.
Not really a resort more a strip of hotels on very good beach. Local town
Ukunda has some shops but souvenirs etc can be bought on beach.
