The 4 star Pestana Miramar Apartahotel is the Pestana Groups closest hotel to Funchal town simply 400m from the coast. It has actually been built on the site of the historical Hotel Miramar and great care has been required to maintain a pleasantly sentimental environment in the architecture and landscaping. "50/50 impressions of Miramar & The Village Hotels
Was an excellent place. Utilized the regional buses with a Giro ticket as the stops are easily outside the hotel. The hotel was alright, the gorgeous flowers & large shrubs made a wow. Enjoyed that this hotel was when a manor house integrated in 1924. Great deals of character and old world charm with antiques and so on, in the lobby. Didn't like the walking stick chairs in our room & the in the main part of The Village bar & entertainment area. Really uneasy. The buffet dining establishment was really bad as the food was boring. Al a-carte was much better & good value."
" Charming hotel with some issues. Extremely beautiful hotel with beautiful garden - we were upgraded to the remarkable room in the old estate with the stunning view to the harbour and the ocean (and that is the factor I provide 5 however not 4 stars). The hotel has its spirit of older Madeira and is spick-and-span. The area is best. I truly advise it.
However, couple of problems need to be discussed: WIFI is not stable, it was weird not to have fresh veggies for breakfast and I would reconsider prior to purchasing supper to the plan - it is not worth it while there are numerous great restaurants around."
" Great resort with valuable, friendly personnel.
Spick-and-span, appealing resort. Lovely gardens and pool locations. Daily maid service. Good place with sea views and small stores near by. Very nice bakeshop near resort entryway for morning/afternoon coffee and pastries. The new Museum of Modern Art, 5 minutes leave, has really good concerts including gallery tour and glass of wine/beer.
The staff at the resort are really useful and efficient. Great breakfast with wide selection including fresh fruit as well as cooked items, cold meats and cheeses and pastries.
Advice on trips, reserving taxis etc.

" Comfortable Hotel let down by the food
We scheduled into this hotel as part of a Jet 2 Holiday package. The hotel is a small/medium size one set in gorgeous gardens, with 2 outdoor swimming pools and comfy spaces (with balconies and mini-kitchens).
Sadly, there are just # 2 (out of # 4) dining establishments open; one is buffet design and the other an extremely small one serving plain local dishes. At both of these dining establishments, the food is of average quality. This is a problem if you are scheduled with a 'half board' plan as you are stuck to this average food every day!!
Service is normally good but.the buffet restaurant had a peculiar process of asking clients to mark time at a very sluggish station to pay (on-the-room or money) after one's meal. A huge unfavorable is that the in-room safe can not be utilized as the lock has been removed AND the reception says that they don't have any to fit the safes, likewise they can not care for prized possessions at reception!! The outcome is that guests need to carry belongings with them all over they go on the island ... a risky proposal.
The hotel itself is tactically located, with bus stops instantly outside so entering into town or doing the 'sight seeing bus' trips is very easy.
The spaces are - surprisingly - not provided with tea/coffee, milk, biscuits etc to use in the mini kitchen, although there is a hob, dishware & utensils BUT ... there are 2 small supermarkets straight outside for supplies.
In general, this hotel is 3 * (food + service), with a 4 * setting/environment. As soon as you acknowledge this, you will have a comfy stay."
" Magnificent old made grandeur and luxury
We were updated to a junior suite even though we were just there for one night. Gorgeous in every regard. We had actually scheduled a dining experience which permits you to select from restaurants both within the resort or at Pestana Grand. Being exhausted we decided to choose the most basic option: the buffet. It was absolutely fine with a wide range of food. Breakfast was hectic however once again good quality food and really drinkable coffee!
We paid the very same for this fantastic experience as we provided for a night without breakfast in an Edinburgh airport hotel. That was incredible!"
" More than we ever anticipated! We picked this lovely hotel based upon TripAdvisor evaluations, and it surpassed our expectations.
The personnel made us feel welcome from the minute we walked into the hotel reception. The room was spotless, with a balcony overlooking the beautiful gardens. The swimming pools are massive, and there are plenty of sunbeds to relax on. It was never overcrowded, and there's a pool bar right there if you need a beverage.
The food was excellent, beginning with the buffet breakfast/dinner and continuing with the a la-carte dining establishments Miramar and Adega, which did not disappoint. The personnel is incredibly friendly, speaking ideal English and making us feel very welcome. From Felipe and Roberto in the bar to Christina, Andrea, Lucilia and Farah in the restaurant and all the remainder of the staff, everybody was so great and made us feel so invited.
We will certainly go back to beautiful Madeira, and we will stay at Pestana Miramar again.

" Cozy hotel. This was our second time to Madeira, and we are extremely delighted with the option that we make, this hotel was very good with a very cozy environment. The food was proficient at breakfast, and dinner. The personnel was really kind with us, and assisted us scheduling some trips. The a/c on the space was not working well, however was the only thing that was a little bit unfavorable to us. We will be back."
