"Fabulous break by the sea. We liked our week's stay here, on a bed and breakfast basis. Everything was spotlessly tidy, and everybody was required to use masks, which suggested it felt actually safe.
Large modern-day space, with an extremely comfortable bed and good seating location for relaxing. In the restroom, there was a big walk-in shower, hairdryer and good quality toiletries. Daily maid service.
The hotel is straight opposite the sea, and all spaces have a sea view (most with terraces), offering great views of the sundowns. It was also truly quiet - we requested a top floor space.
The choice at breakfast was amazing, with everything you might potentially think of! It was such a reward to have buffet-style once again, too (post Covid). From the cooked alternatives, to all the various kinds of breads, cheeses, fresh fruits, yoghurts, juices, pancakes made to order ... the list goes on! Several previous reviewers had talked about the poor coffee - there are now brand-new makers and it was excellent. Likewise, although no there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the space - which is a little odd in a 4-star hotel - you can ask for a totally free kettle from reception, borrow a couple of cups from the dining-room and then make your own coffee in your room.
There is an indoor swimming pool (just by reception), and complimentary swimming pool towels are offered in the room.
I 'd say you 'd certainly need/want a cars and truck if you stay here - we picked up one at the airport (scheduled it in advance, with Insular car leasing - once again, extremely recommended, with friendly service). We picked the area of Ponta Do Sol over Funchal as we desired somewhere quieter and right by the sea. It likewise provided us simple road access to all other parts of the island as we understood we wanted to explore, yet Funchal was still just 30 minutes away by cars and truck. The hotel provides totally free underground parking, however if that is complete, you can park free of charge in a neighboring obsolete tunnel.
There are a handful of restaurants within walking range - the best one was absolutely the one set down on top of the cliff ... an ideal place to be at sundown. The rooms are very large and have a great shower. I would have value a kettle. Breakfast and Dinner were buffet style and catered for trips. " Everything about this hotel except the view is blah, boring. The dining-room seems like you are in an old folks house and the food to match. The food is not great. The decor is not extremely great. Whatever appears to be beige or grey, however not in a good soothing method. From reception to dining the whole experience is dull. The view is nice, however even that would not make me return. Oh, and the swimming pool is in the lobby ... Overpriced for what you get."

" A resort type hotel great in parts. This hotel was excellent in parts. The spaces were big however somewhat sparsely supplied and no kettle. Breakfast and supper were buffet design and the food while different and plentiful was bland with well over prepared vegetables. Most awful of all the coffee at breakfast was undrinkable and not what we had been used to in Portugal. On the plus side there is a charming sea view, distance to a stony swimming beach and indoor pool. There is also lots of comfy lounge space for relaxing."
