"Dazzling minimalist 5 star Hotel on ocean front
We have taken pleasure in a fantastic and peaceful 7 night remain at the Melia Mare. Our large and well designated room dealt with the ocean, and neglecting the swimming pool and sunbathing location. We opted for breakfast just, and each morning there was plenty to pick from, from fresh fruit, to eggs and bacon, to toast and pastries, mostly eaten out on the balcony. I delighted in a facial and reflexology with Dulce in the Spa, and later on, my partner and I had the relaxing massage. The spa is well worth spending time in, with 5 Jacuzzi's, indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam, and relaxing locations. The hotel lies on the Beach front, and the center of town is accessible by bus 1 and 2 (10mins), or you can walk (20 minutes). A range of tours can be booked through the front desk. For dinner, I would extremely recommend Ilha Kaffee dining establishment, and likewise Il Basilico, all 5 min walking distance from the hotel. The staff at Melia Mare are probably the most best, kindest and congenial individuals I've ever satisfied in a hotel. We truly enjoyed our stay, and I would not hesitate to return."

" Outstanding customer care. We stayed for three weeks at the Melia Mare and every day was ideal. The centers were spotless, the option of food was large and of a high standard and the staff got along and mindful. I completely and unreservedly recommend this hotel."

" In summary an extremely great hotel. We had sea view which offer you additional space +40 SQM. High standard, comfy beds, large restroom. Free indoor parking of you rent a cars and truck. Excellent area in Lido, which is a really nice area simply outside Funchal. Reception staff was outstanding, 5 stars for them, constantly friendly and provided extremely helpful recommendations for restaurants, cars and truck rental and so on, they doubled up as a concierge desk, and they did a very good task. We are so happy we are going back for a week already in Feb. So why 4 and not 5 stars? The only negative was the breakfast, did not reach 5 stars. Juice was watery, croissant not fresh, personnel not so service minded as in the remainder of the hotel. Breakfast location was though extremely great with view. General though we are very pleased with our experience, really liked the staff and particularly the reception personnel so helpful, felt like I was in Tokio. Thanks Melia for a great trip."

" Great location! I truly liked this hotel, great place, the indoor swimming pool is excellent on rainy days, friendly personnel. There were just children from a school inside the covered swimming pool, they were not hotel visitors and they used up a great deal of space. You can walk around the hotel and there is even a little supermarket very close."

" Room for improvement. On the plus side, we had a wonderful sea view, the outside pool area is great, the staff got us a bargain on a hire automobile, and there are lots of good dining establishments nearby. On the down side the breakfast was noticeably typical (e.g. Sunny Delight instead of fresh orange juice!) and some of the design is in need of a refresh."

" We stayed here "by mishap" truly. We were initially staying at another resort hotel in Funchal (not far away from the MMMRS), however our trip company had to transfer us, and the rest of the group, to MM because the other hotel could no longer accommodate us due to a big occasion going on there. Nevertheless, we thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay at the MM, and it really made the vacation. We had an excellent suite neglecting the ocean, with a little kitchen space, which was fantastic for us and we had the ability to make our own coffee and a number of salads for days out ... Lots of storage space in the suite for all our "stuff". With the exception of a few of the staff in the dining, all the hotel personnel were actually friendly and practical - however we weren't impressed with a few of the personnel in the dining-room at breakfast and dinner time ... two of the staff behind the breakfast omelette counter were quite surly and unsmiling - and it truly wound me up when I asked for a two-egg omelette - the "chef" cracked two eggs into a bowl and only put half the mix in the pan ... and do not get me tackling the pre-prepared ham, cheese and onion omelette, which i took one early morning due to the fact that we remained in a rush to get out - the prepared egg had plenty of bits of shell ... yuk. Oh yes, and the boorish, self-important and totally impolite waiter in the dining room at supper time - we discussed it to our trip manager and we never saw him once again! It was a superb location though - about half an hour's walk from main Funchal, so we didn't have to fret about learning the confusing bus system ... There was music most nights, however on the Saturday night, it was particularly loud and went on till after midnight - just as I believed it was going to unwind and surface, it simply went on and on and on ... didn't get a wink's sleep that night! Food was mediocre to average, although breakfast were much better than the dinner menus. Both breakfasts and dinners were self-service. We didn't try the day spa (which had to be paid for separately), but we did enjoy the heated indoor swimming pool and the Jacuzzi - wonderful! There's a little supermarket about 10 minutes from the hotel down the hill and turn left ... The personnel on reception were so useful and friendly - in fact, they couldn't do enough for us. Would certainly advise this hotel to anyone visiting Funchal, however I believe we would go bed and breakfast only and go out to any variety of excellent restaurants for lunches and night meals."

" Superb hotel in excellent location. Simply returned from another superb 10 night remain at the Melia Mare.A beautiful warm smile to greet us at reception on arrival & two welcome rejuvenating fruit drinks.Checking in took a couple of minutes then our bags taken up to the room
Our space was a complete sea view with commanding views out to sea & the lido area.Lovely large balcony with table & chairs & two loungers.
We stayed on a b & b board & the breakfast choice would be enough for anyone.Lovely pool location with an abundance of loungers & brollies.Nothing to much problem for any of the staff & that consists of management
We enjoyed our remain at the Melia very much & it was a wrench to close our room door on departure.Anyone trying to find a quality, relaxing 5 * hotel in Funchal to remain i would advise the Melia without hesitation"

" Excellent Customer Service. My Spouse & I stayed here for ten days in February. Our preliminary room neglected the swimming pool which was loud, so we asked to alter and were provided a free upgrade which was a good, unanticipated surprise. This hotel is located in the hotel zone, a brief bus trip to Funchal town. It is a clean, contemporary hotel with comfy beds and stunning sea views. We went half board. The food was so-so - average. It was self service. Busy at breakfast however quieter at nights. Outstanding covid rules & hygiene policies in place when we checked out. The very best thing was the client service. We discovered everyone to be so pleasant, helpful & friendly. A huge 'thank you' to all the reception & and dining establishment staff. I recommend The Madeira Mare and would remain here once again."
