"Great place, friendly staff, fantastic views!
I have actually remained in this hotel numerous times over the last duration of five years. I enjoy its place: almost 10 to 15 mins strolling, and you are either in downtown Funchal or in Lido location. This Pestana hotel is huge and has actually got everything what you require: various swimming pools, direct access to the sea (really essential for me) and remarkable views. The sunrise from the tower rooms is simply sensational."
" Great hotel, terrific location, fantastic rate, try it!
I remained for a week with my husband and 2 boys for the Oct half term break. We showed up late after a hold-up and we're given a sea view room on the 14th flooring. We had booked a living room which was basically 2 adjoining spaces but one had a sink instead of a wardrobe in one of the spaces. We were on the corner so had a substantial terrace with magnificent views. The refrigerator had some waters and other treats to invite us too.
The space is dated and the sofa bed was too uncomfortable for both young boys so they brought us another bed. I didn't anticipate 5 star hotel after reading reviews so I understood what to anticipate but it actually isn't all that bad at all. The beds and pillows were very comfy, the room was truly clean, and the Clarins toiletries were nice. It was a lot more affordable than other options so you spend for what you get.
The hotel is actually tidy, can't fault it at all. Our space was made up two times a day and all the shared facilities depend on a high standard. For October half term week it was quiet. No rush to get a sun bed ever ... Although the weather wasn't great it was still warm. Indoor pool is fantastic too, the kids invested hours in there every day. They likewise had use of a swimming pool table, table tennis and fuse ball. If you go right down the bottom pool there is a little platform with actions right into the sea. You might swim with the fish and snorkel and it was all cordoned off so you could not head out too far.
There is a little shop hidden away in the hotel to the left of the swimming pool which stocks drinks and snacks at a very affordable rate so conserves you spending a fortune in the bar! Or there is a store throughout the road as the hotel store is shut on Sundays.
They also have a happy hour in the tavern bar from 6-7pm every day which deserves going to if you like a drink.
I saw lots of grievances about breakfast however we didn't really have any problem with it. There is loads of option and all to a respectable requirement. There is frequently a catsup shortage but I arranged that by having some spare in my bag from days when it was plentiful! We always went down at the busiest time so expected an await a table however it never felt rammed and lines didn't take too long to go down. The waiters constantly appeared very speedy at clearing the tables.
I did take my own tea bags because I know there were a lot of groans about the tea and I am glad I did. This isn't a hotel thing however, the English tea is quite rubbish all over in Maderia. It's a British issue!
All in all, it is a charming hotel in a perfect area. It is dated and some of the furnishings require attention however we would come here once again for certain."
" Lovely Christmas vacation. Excellent hotel personnel got along we had the Christmas gala supper it was very good food and the wine continued coming the entertainment music was great we also had the Christmas day buffet supper we had a see view room Christmas decors in Funchal town where wonderful we had a wonderful time all the restaurants were great we will be back next years Christmas week"
" SLEEPLESS NIGHTS. WE showed up on December 17th. The 3rd time i remained here and will be the last. The first night we discovered a bar has opened about 50 yards from the landward side of the hotel so if you don't book a sea view space( More costly) you get a live band playing on the club roof until 5am and individuals in the street outside all night groaning like wolves and screaming round the front of the hotel. We were told by personnel this club had a license and they might do what they desired any night till 5am with impunity. There is apparently absolutely nothing the hotel or its owners can do to stop it.They moved us to the top floor, that made no difference, the noise funneled upwards from the rooftop throughout the road. After 3 nights more we gave in and paid over 300 euros more to transfer to a sea view room.as i had become ill through absence of sleep and migraines, so at least we had a quiet Christmas. The personnel are nice people extremely helpful and well mannered but they appear defenseless to solve the massive noise problem they have. Also lots of motorbikes circling the streets over and over between 5am and 6am. This is what we experienced, so will not be going there once again > have actually found a good quiet hotel more detailed to the town and far from the clubs for next year."
" Lovely place & clean. I was worried by the bad evaluations but didn't require to worry! I was on the top floor with views of Funchal, stunning views of the Christmas lights.
There were a couple of things that I think could be altered to make it a better experience. I only had buffet breakfast & all the prepared choices were cool & then put onto a cold plate, nothing ever warm, no chance of it being hot. I got around it by having the newly cooked omelette cooked by the extremely pleased chef Ali, he was the star of my stay. The only other thing to mention are the sun loungers, just 2 key ins the entire property & all much too low to enter & out of for anyone with any movement concerns."
" Not a 5 Star-hotel! Rooms and dining establishments are old and needs upgrading! No restaurants and no food readily available at 25th of December. The grill was closed! The pub that can handle 30 guests was naturally complete. The restaurant was fully booked!? So we, a family of 5 grownups staying in 3 double rooms for a week tried to call room-service however it should take a minimum of 2 hours to get any food. So we wound up drinking a cup of Tea in our rooms. This is NOT acceptable for a 5 Star hotel! Staff is scared to death for the managers !! My best idea, choose another hotel, there are lots of them; Reeds, Savoy, Porto Mare, etc!"
" Great holiday
Terrific holiday! The hotel's location is ideal. Foods were delicious with different options. The service was outstanding. Especially, we would like to thank Vitalina, who deals with the 15th Floor. She works very tough and always with smiles. The room was cleaned thoroughly everyday. She sometimes provided us some surprise, such as making the towels appears like fish etc, making our stay more satisfying!"
" Great place. For the cost of regular B&B most places in U.K. you can have terrific 5 star hotel with all amenities consisted of like swimming pools, saunas, gyms, night home entertainment etc. Rooms are spick-and-span and spacious, breakfast that can please everyone's taste, extremely friendly and useful reception and dining establishment staff. Hotel is situated in a great place, near the bus station that serves either of Hop on-Hop off services, in addition to regional buses. It is also walking distance to close-by boardwalk, most spaces have private balconies, all in all, place to come back in the future as Madeira is worth checking out more than when."
