"I was not anticipating fantastic things when I scheduled our break to Madeira. Yes the hotel is old fashioned and the restroom requires upgrading but the room was large, spotlessly cleaned up every day. The hotel itself is charming with an amazing indoor pool and 2 lovely outside pools. Breakfast is excellent, a lot of option however the coffee is to be avoided as is the orange juice. The personnel are friendly and handy. We concerned see the NYE fireworks however decided against going to Funchal as there is an ideal vantage point on the Cristo Rei statue website to view the fireworks. There had to do with 100 individuals seeing with us, mainly locals. It saved us the 2/3 hour wait to get back from
Funchal in a taxi/ bus and we saw all the fireworks in all their glory. Garajau itself had all we required for our stay. A lot of excellent restaurants"
" Really great stay. Good hotel, not pricey at all for what it is. Spaces were clean, personnel were really good and valuable. Breakfast was fine, it was the same every day but there's sufficient to choose from that if you stayed for a week you 'd only have the exact same thing a number of times. Location is ideal, the bus stop to Funchal is straight outside the hotel and just 15 minutes away in the bus. The beach is behind the hotel witch is a 5 minute walk and you can get a cable car down to it instead of treking 30 minutes down a windy course that winds round and down a cliff. The bar at the bottom is absolutely amazing and the personnel were great
Just criticism really is the indoor swimming pool was supposed to be warmed however in all fairness the hotel was relatively quiet since it's November and the energy expense to heat it for the few visitors there would not have been economical"
" Cheap as chips. I've offered it 5 stars since it was so inexpensive. We paid ₤ 250 for a week including flights! The spaces are spotless, good shower en-suite. No tea and coffee making facilities or anything aside from breakfast available at the hotel due to Covid but there are some very reasonable coffee shops and dining establishments across the roadway. We discovered these great - the fresh orange juice was incredible. Walls are thin so sometimes you can hear people noise from other rooms but it was always peaceful by 11. The breakfast was the same every day which got dull. Sporadic on the fruit and cereal which is odd when there is so much in the shops? Nevertheless you can supplement this from the supermarkets throughout the roadway. Pool and gardens stunning. Bus stops outside for Funchal EUR2.20 where there is everything. Normally really quiet and peaceful. Everywhere is so tidy in Madeira."
" Nice stay! We stayed here for 8 days, the breakfast was constantly the exact same, however enough to choose. It's just 15min from Funchal however a rental vehicle is advised! There's no parking, however on the street it's not expensive. The hotel is nice, fresh linen and towels when you desire and cleaned everyday! The staff are really friendly and helpful! There are 3 swimming pools, incredible in the summertime. There is likewise a beautiful garden, it might look far away when you're remaining in block 5, but there's an indoor way to the breakfast etc. The rate is worth the go to."
" Beautiful hotel. Dom Pedro in en huge hotel with so much to do and a lovely outdoor swimming pool along with an indoor one. They have lots of activities and breakfast is stunning. All personnel got along and we truly enjoyed our stay!"
" Way too loud. Clean, relatively big space, gluten-free bread offered on request for breakfast. However situated straight on the main street to downtown Funchal; rooms face the opposite but the street is extremely noisy"
" Marvelous faded splendour that's wonderful out of season. We intentionally chose to come to this huge hotel out of season and not half term. excellent strategy! No concept what this place resembles when busy but it felt about 10% capacity throughout our see and it was absolutely divine. Nearly surreal in fact-- as we were kicking about with loads of sun lounger area totally free both around the heated swimming pool near reception and outdoors in the gardens.
The staff were initially a bit frosty-- presumably they're utilized to some seriously disrespectful customers-- but when given the regard they deserved they progressed. Happy hour two times a day at the swimming pool bar was a terrific idea, with two mixed drinks for six euros a total bargain. The heated pool was an enjoyable L shape with lots of room for a splash about. Spaces were kept tidy and the cleaners were discreet and kept to instructions one left outside regarding whether you desired them to come in each day or not etc
. We didn't try the restaurant however breakfasts were adequate, depending upon your expectation level.
The gardens were extensive (the hotel is huge, topped 5 blocks) and absolutely gorgeous. Can't picture how they look in the height of summer season but for February this was a real treat. One old tree that had been reduced (see pics) had actually been made a centerpiece for a bunch of potted plants and so on, deftly inserted in between its roots.
It would be a lovely setting for an area of sundown yoga or meditation.
Thank you, Dom Pedro Garajau for a truly idyllic break where time truly stopped still!"
