"Funchal terrific, Pestana hotel not so excellent.
The lighting in the space was poor, the bedside table was in front of the long mirror which had no light above. The fixed furnishings were too bulky for the size of the room so there was only space for one chair in a space for 2 people.
Housekeeping was great prior to brand-new year but went downhill after new year - late making up of space and not renewing tissues and so on.
There was inadequate info on the hotel, no brochure simply a single photocopied sheet.
The patio chairs were cumbersome, hard to move round and not very comfortable.
The lobby area was large and merged with the sunset bar so having a beverage resembled being in a station concourse so no ambiance.
the only location for lunch or snacks throughout the day was at the Dockside bar by the swimming pools which was no good when it rained.
Insufficient lifts for the size of the hotel.
In general the hotel was cold and impersonal. Fine for organization use and conferences but not a holiday."
" This is our default hotel for Madeira.
We had been to Funchal prior to and observed the hotel, its preferably positioned.
I have buddies who remained there and stated it was excellent and they were right.
We like the mid century design of it!
Do not change that side of it!
The rooms are not enormous, but it doesn't matter at all, the view from the terraces is fantastic whichever side you are on.
The breakfast is outstanding.
The terrace bar is nice, it shuts at 6pm. Its a little pricey, so budget for it.
The spaces are clean and the personnel friendly
You're a couple of minutes stroll from the main part of Funchal, simply wonderful. This is our default hotel for Madeira. We will be back"
" No tea/coffee top-ups in room - disappointing.
While we had a fantastic experience at the Pestana Casino Park Hotel there was one really frustrating niggle.
We were pleased to see the complimentary tea and coffee, which you would expect in any decent hotel, in the space in addition to a complimentary honey cake and little bottle of Madeira wine. Extremely great.
The complimentary tea and coffees included 3 sachets of coffee and 6 small milk containers which we utilized during our very first 3-4 days. These were not replaced by the cleaning personnel, as would be the case in most hotels. Upon requesting a top up of the coffee and milk, we had not utilized the tea or sugar, we were informed that just the first supply was complementary and top-ups would cost EUR8. This does seem a little extreme for a number of sachets of low-cost coffee which would most likely cost about 10cents each.
When we commented that on all of our previous gos to the coffee and milk had actually been topped up daily we were informed that it was to do with space tax and they could no longer supply complimentary top-ups. This appeared like a quite lame excuse that the personnel had actually made up to cover their shame.
So whether you are remaining for 2 nights or 2 weeks (as in our case) you just get one complimentary set of tea, coffee and milk. This does not appear really logical and does appear to be penny pinching. Really disappointing policy. We wound up buying a jar of coffee and container of milk from a local store.
I question that any other 5-star hotel in Madeira has such a policy."
" Decent hotel. The home is fine and huge. There were couple of standard things missing out on however. The rooms didn't have any complimentary Tea and Coffee and even the tiny bar was empty. We were extremely surprised to see our room service expense at checkout. While the expense of 1 tea and 1 coffee was Eur7.4, they had furthermore charged Eur8 for space service. So we wound up paying Eur15.4 for 1 tea and coffee. Please examine all charges prior to purchasing."
" Nice Place, Shame About the Service. Whoever handles the bar and waiting personnel requires to turn up for work and do something.
A lot of smiling and primarily pleasant personnel wandering about in an unproductive method, tables stay regretfully uncleared and waiting personnel are not present.
The outcome of this is that the little bar is badly strained by customers failing to be served and both consumers and staff suffer tension when they should be enjoying the experience.
Costs are what you may anticipate from an up-market hotel however service is not. Consumers have a hard time to part with their hard-earned money in pursuit of their needs.
I do not think that I have ever seen a lot of workers wandering aimlessly about while declaring that it is not their place to provide what the customers need. A disarray."
" Another Christmas invested at this hotel - remained in space 521 top floor port view. A comfy spacious suite with minibar location and seating location. Tvs both in living space and bed room areas. Hotel is of an excellent requirement however in need of a freshen up. Health spa well used - as is seen in sauna with seating area in need of repair. We had a number of nights rave music nights originating from the Casino but it was Christmas. All in all - hotel very good worth for cash. A lot of option at breakfast- personnel extremely welcoming and practical. Would return - view from our space was impressive."
" Always enjoy in this hotel. Enjoyed again on Madeira in the hotel, all facilities readily available, spick-and-span room and centers. In the morning an excellent buffet breakfast with something for everyone. Near the old town of Funchal. we were there for the fifth time, with a view of the harbor bay."
