"Nice hotel extremely conventional, decorated for Christmas, nevertheless the indoor swimming pool is definitely not heated and really rundown, broken tiles and so on, we were under the impression from hotel description that there were tea coffee in rooms on arrival we were charged EUR10.00 for the centers (for a 3 night stay) I had to demand additional milk teabags and sugar daily, not what you anticipated for a 5 * hotel. The personnel and there incredible service is where this hotel stands out from the crowd. we were there New Year's Eve, the gala dinner was exceptional food, service red wine impressive.
The exact same personnel were there morning till night and always friendly pleased and mindful"
" Have simply returned from commemorating the dawn of the New Year at this lovely hotel on this beautiful island.
It is the staff who make the hotel fantastic but there is a harmony in the traditional decoration, the sense of area and light and a remarkable fragrance which partially comes from the stunning flower arrangements dotted all over and partly is a mystery! We look forward to returning very soon."
" We had a great week at Quintinha Saojoao- all the staff that operate in this hotel are so friendly and genuinely can't do enough to assist you. It is rare to stay someplace that feels so inviting and relaxing. The lovely flower designs throughout the hotel were an enjoyment to see and everywhere was spotless. The food was remarkable. Well done to everyone"
" My better half & I have just returned from a 2 week vacation at the lovely Quintinha Sao Joao hotel.
The hotel is absolutely spotless, food is excellent & all personnel are extremely enjoyable & professional. The rooms are an exceptional size & beautifully laid out. The hotel is provided in period style furnishings which is gorgeous. The atmosphere of the hotel is extremely peaceful & you leave feeling absolutely energized.
Although the hotel is on a hill, we measured it & it is only about 0.3 of a mile slope on Google maps. We had no problem with the hill & my spouse utilized it for her running training!
The breakfasts were outstanding with a great choice & staff were continuously inspecting and replenishing the food. We ate in the restaurant every night and the choice of meals was excellent. Our only problem was tricking what to have as everything was tasty. The selection included meat, fish and vegetarian. An unique thanks to the chef and pastry chef (cook - Dora) who catered admirably for my other half's gluten intolerance. Not everyone ate in the restaurant however we would completely suggest reserving half board as it was among the highlights of our stay.
There are beautiful swimming pool locations, a gym with excellent devices and a health spa. My better half had a massage treatment (from Laura), which she completely enjoyed and stated it made her feel so "relaxed".
Special reference to Filipe, Bernardo, Mathias, Eduardo and Marianna in the dining establishment who served us and were exceptionally efficient and enjoyable.
The hotel has an excellent choice of wines which were reasonably priced and the people were terrific at advising red wines to have at our dinner. Their knowledge of white wines was excellent. The reception personnel were likewise practical.
We enjoyed our stay a lot that we have re-booked to return in February next year."
" Gem of a hotel. We stayed here for a week. It is one of the best little hotels we have actually remained in. The spaces are large with a proper sitting location. The hotel has remarkably friendly and helpful staff. One lady had actually worked there for 20 years which is a testimony to the method the hotel is run. Although in a built up location there was no discernible noise overnight. Next time we remain in Madeira we will definitely stay there. Visitors need to note that there although it is only a 20 minute walk to the centre, this is down a steep hill. There are plenty of taxis and a courtesy bus service. We constantly strolled in the wonderful temperatures even after supper."
