Discovery Bay brief description.
This broad formed basin, 8km west from Runaway Bay and 8km east of Rio Bueno, is a leading resort spot for people drawn to Puerto Seco Beachfront, as well as a number of Jamaica's wealthiest households possess holiday villas up in the hills there. The town itself provides basically limited appeal. Controling the inland side of the road is the enforcing construction of the Kaiser Bauxite mining and handling plant. The grounds are home to the annual "Pushcart Derby" where fearless contestants race pushcarts down the arduous hill of the foundry. The derby showcased in and was made famous by the 1993 film "Cool Runnings" which depicted a fictionalised account of the true story of the Jamaican bobsled group's qualification and participation in the 1988 wintertime Olympics in Calgary. Locals think this as being the place exactly where Christopher Columbus initially arrived at Jamaican soil in 1494, despite the fact that some people believe it really was at Rio Bueno.
