Jamaica and Kingston specifically has a lot of history. Built in 1692 while Jamaica was under English rule after Port Royal originally founded by the Spanish in 1518, was destroyed by an earthquake .
Kingston has the seventh largest natural harbour in the world and a very busy port, so seeing huge ships cruising by each day or moored up is normal. Kingston has stark contrasts between modern and rustic Jamaican constructions. You could be on one street and feel in a modern metropolitan city, while the next street will have you in old style traditional - way back - Jamaica. Despite some bad reports of gun violence and killings in Jamaica, this is normally local revenge and does not effect tourists. Though, like many holiday destinations, there are thieves. So walking around busy markets or off street side roads wearing loads of bling or expensive cameras is a no no. In general, people don't walk around much at night as the road is full of taxis and they are so cheap. During the day, up to about 9pm, there's an excellent bus service all over and around the Kingston area. They are modern with AC and a single $1 can take you virtually anywhere. There's a massive range of hotels and other accommodation available in Kingston to suit all tastes and pockets. But wherever you go, there's the food! Whether you want Kentucky chicken or traditional dishes, its everywhere! Some of the best hospitality restaurants with great food are little known to tourists and we shall be listing them here. Foreign visitors are well catered for in Kingston as the city is a vibrant hub of international corporate and business activity. Then of course there are the tours. Fancy going up 6000 meters to Blue Mountain where the famous coffee is grown? Or maybe the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston might grab you? Or, a day out at one of the splendid waterfall attraction parks? Or just tailor it yourself after reading through one of our local guides. Wherever you wish to go, its just a phone call away. You can hire a personal taxi any day or book an excursion from one of the many tour firms (we shall be listing them here). |

Unlike most sites which just show the 'best' pictures and write ups, at Exclusive Travel we have our own team of reviewers who regularly visit locations unannounced. We see it as it is and interview people. We also actively encourage others to send their photos, remarks or reviews to us. We also carry out analyses on guest reviews and expose the real truth about the place. Occasionally, a hotel may for obvious reasons object to visits or reviews. In which case, it will still be listed to keep the directory intact, but will say "NOT RECOMMENDED" alongside. Those we have yet to visit will say "NOT YET RATED".
