Winnifred is one of the last remain free public beaches in Jamaica that is rated among the best that has been well known and has been used by the community, the local Jamaican citizens and international tourist who visit to have a lovely leisurely day at the beach. Seniors, Church groups, families and tourist congregate on the beach on a regular basis as it's FREE and a colourful and pleasant authentic atmosphere. If you would like to mingle with the superbly friendly locals on a wonderful beach, this is the place you must travel too. Get to know the real Jamaica and its people.
The road heading up to the beach is long and unpaved which leads to a wide, white sandy beach which stretches along a sheltered bay with thick groups of trees and vines providing good shade and acts as a backdrop to the aquamarine water filling the foreground. At the foot of the hill, large trees provide shade on a flat strip of land where several food and drink vendors prepare corn, hot soup, jerk delights a Portland local specialty and fresh fish, however you want it served.
There's also small fields, perfect for football, volleyball and other beach sport and on weekends, there is also horseback riding that tours along the beach, but if you want more adventures on the water there's also boat rides to the nearby Monkey Island. On public holidays the beach comes alive with music and activities on the beach, it's a vital gathering place for mixing and socializing with refreshments on sale for all Jamaicans and is also preferred by a lot of tourist because of its unique features.
