History:
The YS estate go back to the 17th century. There are 2 theories as to how the estate got its name, one is that the estates initially two owners were named John Yates and Colonel Richard Scott, by integrating the initials of their surnames they created the name "YS Estate". Another theory is that the name stems from the Gaelic word "wyess", implying "winding".
The YS Estate initially grew sugar cane and logwood (a part in the manufacture of dyes) for export to Europe. In 1950 the owner of the estate branched off in to the breeding of pureblooded racehorses and livestock.
In 1990 the estate opened to the general public as a tourist attraction. Given that opening the falls visitor numbers have been kept an eye on and limited to prevent the falls becoming damaged through excessive foot traffic.

The stunning seven-tiered YS Falls is among Jamaica's many picturesque destinations. Found on Jamaica's South Coast, the waterfalls are surrounded by lovely gardens.
The YS Falls are 120 foot high and waterfall over 7 levels. Actions have been developed the side of the falls so visitors can view the falls without getting wet. If you 'd choose a more interactive experience there are natural pools at the bottom of each level of the falls. One pool features a rope swing where you can swing "tarzan-style" in to the water below. For a more relaxing swim there is also a four foot deep swimming pool at the bottom of the falls which is fed by natural springs.
The YS Water Falls is located 50 miles East of Negril and 50 Miles south of Montego Bay Jamaica on the YS estate in the parish of St. Ann.
Including on the special Jamaican YS Estate is the stunning water falls, a natural spring swimming pool, luscious aromatic gardens and a horse stud farm. There are seven waterfalls in overall which cascade into natural pools. Lifeguards are on site and show which locations are for swimming although being able to swim is a requirement. There is also a natural spring swimming pool fed by underground and above ground springs which is better suited for kids and non swimmers. There is also an exhilarating canopy zipline trip which lets which lets you fly 40 feet above the waterfall. An expert group of guides ensure that you are safely strapped in.
River tubing rides are also offered, allowing you to enjoy the serenity of drifting down the river surrounded by the lavish jungle towering overhead. Rainy months are May and October-- areas of the falls may not be entirely safe and there might be a suspension of swimming in some areas.
Surrounding the seven waterfalls are remote mountains, stunning trees, horses and rich green fields. From showing up on the YS Estate there are long canopied roads resulting in YS Falls.
