On holiday to Fuerteventura:

Fuerteventura is located in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 115 km from the African coast and approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes by plane from the Netherlands. The capital of this Spanish island is Puerto del Rosario. Celebrating a holiday without flying far, that's what we want you to do.

Fuerteventura has a varied landscape. The extensive beaches merge into a photogenic landscape of sand dunes, in which you can imagine yourself in the Sahara. Most seaside resorts are located on the south and east coasts of the island, such as Corralejo, Jandía Playa and Calete de Fuste. These seaside resorts are enriched with attractive centres and beautiful spacious accommodations. In the charming restaurants you can enjoy the extensive Spanish cuisine and the delicious typical Canarian and fresh dishes.

Surfers have also found their perfect spot on this island. They can always enjoy wind and water sports. But Fuerteventura is also a popular destination for the elderly and families with kids. You can enjoy pleasant temperatures and fun trips all year round.

There is also no shortage of nice accommodations on the island. Hotels, apartments or holiday homes, whatever you want, its available. It just depends on how you want to fill your holiday.

On Fuerteventura you will find several cultural highlights:
The Alcogida eco museum in Tefia is centrally located on the island. In this open-air museum with a settlement of seven houses you will get acquainted with the traditional architectural style of the Canary Islands.
In the capital Puerto del Rosario you can visit the Casa Museo de Unamuno. In 1924, the philosopher and painter Miguel de Unamuno lived in this beautiful house for several months. The house gives a nice picture of life in the early 20th century.
The Centro de Arte Canario is located in the atmospheric town of La Oliva in the north of the island. This lovely museum has a collection of paintings and sculptures by Spanish artists. In the beautiful garden you can see various sculptures.

In the south of Fuerteventura, between inhospitable hills and near the beautiful beach of Cofete, a mystery can be found. Villa Winter is located at the end of a deserted road. It was built by Gustav Winter, one of Hitler's senior officers. The purpose of the building is still uncertain to this day. Was it simply a villa or was the heavily guarded and armoured house an escape route for high-ranking German Officers.

The nature of Fuerteventura is very diverse:
Near the picture of Betancuria, in the interior of the island and on top of a mountain massif, is the viewpoint Morro Velosa. You get a breathtaking view over the island. There is also an information centre about Fuerteventura.
The nature reserve El Jable is located in the northeast of the island and consists of a series of sand dunes. The approximately 27 km² large park is reminiscent of the Sahara. Between the sand dunes, which are constantly changing, you only see small stone walls that serve as windbreaks.
The island of Los Lobos is located off the coast of Corralejo. You go there by boat. The small island is a protected nature reserve and has an extensive flora and fauna with species that you will not find anywhere else. You can enjoy diving around the island.

Fuerteventura has very good hiking opportunities. In addition to miles of beach walks, there are also good inland hiking opportunities. The quiet walking routes lead through beautiful dunes, past old volcanoes and barren mountains with fantastic views over the island. Since there is almost no shade to be found during the walks, it is important to bring enough water and good equipment with you.

It is very easy to rent a car in Fuerteventura and explore the island. Besides beautiful deserted beaches you will come across nice places, such as Cassilas del Angel, with beautiful, small houses and a special church with a facade of black volcanic natural stone. One of the prettiest villages is La Oliva, the 18th century military headquarters with beautiful buildings and an interesting museum.
