About Sardinia.

The island of Sardinia is the second largest Italian island, with Sicily being the first. Set in the middle of the Mediterranean, it enjoys wonderful weather and over 1400 miles of coastline with dozens of fascinating beaches to discover. While the interior is mountainous and craggy and very popular with explorers and hikers. There are many roads criss crossing to thrill while driving through the wild hinterland of Sardinia's interior. Its worth hiring a car and exploring not only the interiors magical beauty but the countless secluded white sandy beach coves with shallow warm waters. Perfect for swimming and snorkeling. There's a highway north to south of Sardinia giving opportunity to explore the island at will.

While glistening waters and beaches of white sand may be the main tourist attraction, there is a great deal more to experience in Sardinia. Famous cities and towns full of historical culture. There are archaeological monuments that go back to 1500BC. In the semi tropical east of Sardinia you will see 'Giara' which are small wild horses and monkeys in the forests of cork trees.

Sardinia's low season is February to May and can be a real bargain for holidays. April and May are best for hiking or visiting cities with a moderate temperature. For bargains and still warm weather, we suggest September and October for beach resorts as the sea is still nice and warm for swimming, though some days may be rainy.

Cuisine - Meals in Sardinia are all about family, friends or co-workers. Its a time to relax in good company and chat about anything without attention to time. There's an appetising range of fish dishes, lamb, pork and of course, many variations of pasta. All cooked in that tasty Italian style. But leave room for the delicious desserts of many pastries, fritters, fresh cheese and many sweet things - all washed down with some real Italian wine from the local vineyard. With families, Sunday dinners can last four hours!

Villasimius is a very popular destination. This town is without doubt the diamond of Sardinia. With its turquoise gentle water, white sand beaches and luxurious resorts, its a magnet that attracts many seeking a pleasure filled beach holiday.

A must see is a boat journey to Alghero and Sardinia's famous Neptune caves that extend for over four miles, carved out from centuries of river water.

There are boat excursions to the Maddalena Archipelago consisting of seven breathtaking beautiful islands where you can relax with a picnic, go swimming or snorkeling on one of the many small secluded beaches. The La Maddalena Island has car hire for adventurers.
