The finest beaches on the island are Hat Lamai and Hat Chaweng but if these are a little crowded for you then head for the more peaceful beaches on the northern side of the island. All of the beaches are fantastic for snorkelling and Big Buddha Beach is a must visit for a great photograph opportunity.

If by any chance (and it's doubtful) you get bored with frolicking around on the most beautiful and tranquil beaches Thailand has to offer, then you could head inland. The island flourishes with countless picturesque coconut plantations, still the main source of income for the local economy, despite the huge rise in tourism over the past ten years. The lush paddi fields are also a delightful sight and away from the bliss of beach life, give you a feeling of being in real Asia. Visits to Koh Samui's enchanting butterfly garden and the Thai boxing stadium (for viewing, we don't recommend that you try your luck in the ring!) are enjoyable ways of giving your skin a rest from the sun and sea.
