Where to go in the UK for christmas markets
Christmas puds, wine, toasties and wooden toys from vendors across the UK will be turning up at many Christmas markets in the UK this festive season.
Xmas markets are the perfect place to browse gifts, decorations and soak up the atmosphere of festive cheer amongst others along with plenty of mulled wine, xmas beverages, music and tasty offerings. Below are the biggest UK Christmas markets followed by all the others taking place across the UK. And maybe, just maybe a little snow to add the final touch.

Manchester, November 10 to December 21
The market has hundreds of stalls across its nine city centre sites this year, in what will be its 25th outing. This year will see the iconic ski chalet market stalls take over Piccadilly Gardens - once again set to be transformed into the Winter Gardens - as well as multiple other streets nearby.
For those who look forward to a seasonal skate, Skate Manchester's family-friendly covered ice rink will once again take up its usual spot in Cathedral Gardens where skaters can skate around a beautiful Christmas tree

Nottingham, November 7 to December 31
Nottingham Market Square is the home of the largest Christmas market in the East Midlands, with a key feature being the impressive 32 metre observation wheel. Expect plenty of delicious foods to buy, including locally made stews and artisan cheese, as well as an ice rink.
Visitors will also be able to take in the massive Christmas tree, hand out at the ice bar or even have a go on the toboggan run.

Leeds, November 24 to December 22
After the market was cancelled in Leeds last year, this year's outing is back with a bang. For the first time ever, streets and spaces all across the city centre will be hosting around 120 Bavarian-style, traditional, timber market stalls decked out in festive lighting. The new Christmas market will also feature three Christmas-theme outdoor bar areas on Briggate, Quebec Street (close to market stalls on City Square which is outside the train station) and Dortmund Square.

Birmingham, November 2 to December 24
What is arguably the country's most iconic Christmas market is also one of the longest running this year, opening for over a month and a half. The Frankfurt market, as it is known, is the largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany or Austria, and provides plenty of Bavarian treats including pretzels, schnitzels, bratwurst's, and roasted almonds. The perfect place to stop for a glass of gluhwein, weissbeer (wheat beer), or tasty hot chocolate.

Winchester, November 17 to December 21
The city's Christmas market is centred around its stunning cathedral, providing the perfect setting for an evening of festive cheer. It is made up of wooden chalets inspired by traditional German Christmas Markets, with lashings of mulled wine and carol singers helping to create the atmosphere.

Edinburgh, 27 November to January 6
The centre of Edinburgh will be turned into a festive paradise for a month and a half as stall holders set up in East Princes Street Gardens, which is right next to the city's main railway station Waverley. Guests can enjoy everything from mulled Iron Bru to vegan pigs in blankets in what is bound to be an excellent festive representation of the city.

York, November 16 to December 22
This Christmas the city's market, known as St Nicholas Fair, will have been making York's winding cobbled streets even more enchanting for 31 years. York is probably the most beguiling and festive city in the UK generally speaking, so mulled wine fumes and the presence of romantically hung mistletoe can only add to the atmosphere.

Bristol, November 3 to December 23
Bristol's city centre will be taken over by dozens of market stall holders and be visited by Father Christmas and his reindeer this festive season. Bristol Shopping Quarter's streets will play host to wooden chalets offering a selection of gifts as well as festive food and drink.

Chester, November 17 to December 21
One of the shorter running Christmas markets of the year, but still very much worth a visit. A handmade, historical, magical experience awaits with 70 traders situated in the square around the town hall, where a large sparking Christmas tree will bath visitors in light.

Newcastle, November 18 to December 23
Newcastle's Christmas market will include an avenue of stalls along Grainger Street, the streets lining Grainger Market, the top of Grey Street, and Old Eldon Square, after it was expanded last year. Local traders will be serving up bespoke jewellery, eco-friendly beauty products, clothing, Churros, homemade chutneys and preserves as well as plenty of unique gifts. A programme of street entertainment will also run at the weekends.
