Where is safe to travel 2025

We no sooner get over lockdowns and travel bans from Covid and get back to enjoying flying off to great destinations, than geo-political events puts a spanner in holiday choices again.

WAR & CIVIL UNREST:
Cyprus & Lebanon:
You may not normally consider Cyprus as a war zone but With Israel already mapping locations for attacking Hezbollah in Cyprus and Lebanon, those two places are deffintely on the danger list. In fact Canada is already working on the evacuation plans for its citizens in Cyprus and warned all Canadians to leave Lebanon. Other western countries have issued the same warnings for their ciizens.

Greece: Another unusual place to be cautiou about. As of June 2024, the government has issued warnings to tourists due to anti Israel/Palestine demonstations and civil unrest.

Israel: Deffinately off the holiday list for obvious geo-political reasons.

Turkey: Due its somewhat Russian sided position and its unwavering support for Lebanon, which is liable to be attacked any day now by Israel due to mounting tensions between the two countries, Turkey would immediately be involved in that event putting them at loggerheads with Europe and USA, who back Israel. Not a country to be a westerner in when that happens.

Even countries bordering Russia (apart from Ukraine) like Estonia, Latvia, Finland are preparing for the possibility of war as NATO gets further and further involved. Even to the extent of advising residents to stock up on long life food products, water and other essentials in case of war with Russia.

Pakistan: A high security risk to Western tourists.

Papua New Guinea: As above, high security risks.
While Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Myanmar are all obvious no go tourist areas

CRIME:
Venezuela: Cities like Caracas and Ciudad Guayana are some of the least safe cities in the world. Crime rates are so high that its a dangerous tourist destination.
Belgium: High daylight crime rate. Pick pockets, mugging sometimes violent. Thieves, usually on motorbikes, can break a car window and snatch valuables from the front or back passenger seat when a vehicle is stationary at traffic lights. stealing baggage from trains and buses.

High Health Risk:
Haiti, Libya, Niger, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Sudan, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Eritrea, Burundi and Somalia.

CLIMATE:
With record floods and heat waves affectng an ever increasing number of destinations, it makes common sense not to book a holiday too early without knowing what sort of weather to expect. Just recently Greece saw the thermometer hitting 40+ and we expect 2024 to have even more extreme weather affecting many counties both in and out of Europe.

SAFE HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS:
The safest countries meanwhile are all in Europe: Plus Iceland, Luxembourg, Norway, Switzerland and Denmark.
Outside of Europe, security safe countries are Morocco, Senegal, Oman, Namibia, Ghana, Malaysia, Japan, Chile, Argentina, British Virgin Islands, Costa Rica and obviously Australia, New Zealand, America and Canada.
Also many parts of Mexico are quite peaceful and safe, but like many countries, there are a few 'bandido' areas.
