Our 10 cents worth?

Supposedly one of the best hotels on the Varadero strip. Yes, its appearance is a bit more modern but not the 5 star you would expect. 5 star = 4 star in Cuba, and sometimes only 3 star. This hotel, like most in Cuba may have that damp - musty smell when you first enter a room which normally disappears once its been vented all day. Its very popular with Canadians and you will meet some great people here. Also great for families with young kids. With over 50 hotels and maybe 10 larger resorts on the Varadero coastline many of which are 'tired', I would rate the Marina in the top ten and give it a 4 star.

Some Reviews:
Overall had a very good time. Not a five star hotel but considering Cuba, it is one of the best resorts. Staff was very friendly, rooms, building, grounds were clean and kept very well. Marina promenade was a big plus. Entertainment was mediocre. A la carte restaurants were good.

One of the most modern resorts which feels like it could be in Florida with a marble lobby, pools, marina, shopping promenade and great Varadero beach.

I am fairly hard to please when I comes to trying new resorts but I was very well pleased with this hotel.
Upon arrival the grounds are well kept and the lobby is impressive- the rooms are a different story. We were shown to our rooms and when we opened the door we could smell a distinct mold smell in the entire suite

This place is great, and offers great value. The views from the rooms are lovely, the apartments are spacious, and the staff (or the most part) is super friendly.

Nice ocean front hotel, well situated on one of the worlds best beaches. The rooms are modern, clean and well appointed. We had a room with a gorgeous ocean view. Very large lobby and several dining options. We opted for the buffet since the sushi restaurant was closed. So many buffet stations you will have difficulty deciding what and where to eat

Excellent hotel, friendly staff and great location. Overlooks the marina at the end of the Varadero Peninsula, which is a great location. The beach is only a short walk from the hotel, but there are regular shuttle buggies

Went for the second time to the Melia for the first two weeks of May, we love the place and and the people. You cannot compare a five star hotel in Cuba to one in Dubai or Singapore but everything you need is here. There is always something to eat although not fine dining it is ok.

Although this hotel is new it is very poorly maintained and everything is broken. The bathrooms were disgusting with most missing toilet seats. There are broken lights everywhere. They used dirty rags to clean the tables and buffet serving bowls. The food was horrendous consisting of cold meat, canned pumpkins and hard rice

This was our first trip to Varadero as we were always nervous to go based on food reviews. No worries here at the melia marina! We did book the level and enjoyed our marina view room and the excellent service on the 7th floor. Everyone here caters to your every needs
