What to know about the Great Huts
Recent guest reviews:
“Relaxing. The seating areas outside of the restaurant area. The pool and beach chairs were dirty for the entire time I was there."
“Great views, great landscape”
"Superb. Music can be heard by nearby bar until the early hours of the music. Restaurant service was also very slow."
"Our Wonderful Stay at The Great Huts was certainly a highlight. The hotel was recommended by friends in the hotel industry in Negril, and it did not disappoint."
"A Magical and Breath-taking experience"
"We thoroughly enjoyed an awesome family experience at Great Huts. It was the closest experience to camping with a touch of elegance."
"Very poor. Can hardly find any single advantage, no value of money at all. The place is in a dark forest with poor facilities and unbelievable high price, room was primitive and humid."
Great Huts is a very unique, nature based, rustic beach front accommodation close to Port Antonio centre and was voted the best environment of any small Jamaican resort by the London Observer way back in 2003.
The accommodation consists of African style huts and tree houses within a jungle landscape perched upon cliffs overlooking Boston Bay and the Caribbean. Travelers of independent mind, nature lovers, romantics and artists will enjoy the warmth and natural environment here. The accommodation includes a full breakfast and daily housekeeping. Lunches and dinners can be served on our dining deck, cliff side dining area or bay front lounge and are reasonably priced. There are gardens and of course a swimming pool.
Some huts have a sitting or dining area. There is also a kitchen in some huts with an oven and refrigerator. Towels and bed linen are provided. There is a private beach area and car rental is available. There are various activities in the area, including snorkeling and biking.
Summary:
With such a mix of contradicting negative and positive guest experiences, we only conclude the obvious, the Great Huts is not everyone's cup of tea. Some guests mentioned the bathrooms could be improved, some noted the beds could be improved but most guests appreciated the friendly staff and spoke highly of management.
So our advice is simple. Make sure this is the type of holiday accommodation you would enjoy and be happy with the dust, cobwebs, crawly things and all else that goes with living rustic in wooden jungle huts. If your at one with nature then this could be one of your greatest experiences of a vacation with a difference.
